I’m writing this to praise Frances’s commitment to public and board service and mentorship - while she was at Slack and Techqueria and while I worked at Coro Northern California. In addition to having proven technical skills as an individual contributor, organizations need people who are committed to collective wellbeing. On many occasions, including with friends and a relative, I’ve seen Frances not only champion and encourage people from systematically disadvantaged groups, but also invest personal time and energy to be a connector and educator. The world of work is full of peaks and valleys and those valleys can be isolating and depressing - especially when you have intersectional identities. Sometimes it only takes one person to make the difference from moment to moment. I see Frances being that one person anywhere that she works and contributing to any team’s inclusiveness as well as technical success!
